The Art Show

Every two years in Paris an art show is held for one week.  It is called the XXVth Biennale des Antiquaries and is held near in the Grand Palais. There is a similar or companion show nearby which Fred took a picture of the poster for.

It  is made up of gallery owners from all over the world, each gallery having their own display room.  We think it would be fun to go and maybe buy a print or two.  What we do not realize is that this is a show for millionaires and billionaires and that there are more Matisses, Van Goghs, Renoirs and any other major artist you can think of, hanging on the walls than in any museum.  All being sold to private collectors.  Who were there buying and haggling. This is no Clothesline Festival. We feel a little out of place, but it is a fun walk.

Since we are so close to Pont Alexandre, we walk around it, enjoying the Seine and its beautiful architecture.

The Apartment

The apartment we are renting is on Rue Crois Des Petits Champs.  It is a few blocks from the Louvre on the east bank.  We will have it for about 10 days.

Our friend Bill is going to join us for a few days, so we decide to have lunch while waiting for him.  Right around the corner from us is the Restaurant L'imperieur and we have a delicious lunch followed by a nice espresso.

There are actually over twenty restaurants and cafes in a block radius around us and we plan on eating at many of them.

Arriving

The flight from Rochester to Newark to Charles De Gaulle was uninteresting and cramped.  Even though there is minimal honking, the driving by cars, cabs and even bicyclists is quite aggressive. Mere inches of clearance suffice to allow cars to pass by parked vehicles and other traffic. Many small cars are around including the ubiquitous Smart car. It is raining when we arrive but slowly the skies clear up and it turns into a beautiful September day.
